The St. Monica Club is a prayer group for women who gather each month to pray for the conversion of their families. Meetings will begin in the Holy Martyrs chapel with prayers and reflections and conclude with social time in the hall. We meet the first Thursday of the month.
St. Monica's life could have made her a nagging wife, a bitter daughter-in-law, and a despairing parent, but she didn't succumb to these temptations. Monica's fervent prayers and example finally won her husband and mother-in-law to Christianity. At the time of his father's death, young Augustine was a wild, partying student in Carthage. Monica devoted herself anew to prayers for his conversion. After years of immorality, Augustine and several of his friends were baptized by St. Ambrose on Easter in 387. Augustine went on to become one of the foremost Doctors of the Church.
