We are pleased with efforts by parishioners at our four churches who brought “bright lights” to many families in our communities this season. A summary of gift giving and food projects cannot fully reflect the time and effort given in this annual project. The Parish offers its thanks to a team of organizers and to all who brought gifts & offered donations:
St. Jude: Worked with Freeport Community Services to respond to families who had asked for help. 10 families received clothing, gift cards, and household items. Wall calendars were distributed in a community project.
St. Gregory: Collaboration between the Gray-New Gloucester communities and our parishioners resulted in gifts for 12 families, including 37 children. Gifts were distributed a few days before Christmas.
Holy Martyrs: Falmouth parishioners provided gifts for the youth held at Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland. Gifts were also provided to young people under supervision by the Department of Corrections. The holiday effort included preparation and distribution of holiday food baskets.
Sacred Heart: Refugee/immigrant families received clothing, household items, food gift cards through collaboration with Catholic Charities. In addition, gift cards were given to eight religious Sisters who reside in our area. Veterans under treatment at Togus received wall calendars from the Knights of Columbus and another 100 calendars were distributed to nursing homes and local pantries.
Parishioners also generously offered gift cards to a groups of retired nuns, and we received these messages of gratitude:
"Many thanks for your generosity towards me & my community at Christmas.” “May the Lord reward your kindness and grant you many blessings in the New Year."
And a Thank You From Haiti
The financial support offered by parishioners of Holy Eucharist to the church in Haiti is important to three communities on the south coast of the island nation. In 2019, we will have door collections seven times during the year and request your help. Support will be offered to Parish of Sacred Heart de Meyer and its pastor, Fr. Bertrand Dieuveille. It will also be possible to support four religious Sisters in the same community where they maintain a feeding program for children, training local parents in health and nutrition, and strengthening pastoral work. Support is also offered to the parish in Marbial, Haiti, through the work of Fr. Phalen Chery. In late December, Fr. Bertrand expressed his appreciation,
“On behalf of all my parishioners, I wish everyone peace, happiness, good health and serenity for Christmas 2018 and the New Year of 2019. We offer this wish for the people who contribute to our support and all faithful of the Holy Eucharist Parish.”
