The people are residing at local motels, and they are receiving assistance from the towns of Freeport and Yarmouth. The Community Services organizations of both towns are involved in providing assistance and town residents can make household contributions through that channel. The newcomers are from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, from Angola and from the Caribbean country of Haiti. Arrangements are being made for the Catholic newcomers to attend Easter Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Yarmouth at 11 am. The arrangement involves bus transportation between the motels and the Yarmouth church. We understand that the people have different language/dialects of their home country, and that some have limited English, Portuguese and French. If the church situation presents the opportunity -- please welcome these new “Mainers” with a big smile.
