The International Fine Art Auction is scheduled for Friday, October 28, at 6 p.m. at the University of Southern Maine’s Abromson Center, 88 Bedford Street in Portland.
Included in the consignments up for auction are over 60 items from the personal collection of Fr. Paul Plante, who died on June 30, 2016. Fr. Plante arranged for all proceeds from his items to be donated to the “Father Plante Estate” which will be used for diocesan needs.
Fr. Plante’s collection features a wide array of art. Available from his collection will be oil and watercolor paintings, lithographs, etchings, stone and soapstone sculptures. Several of Fr. Plante’s original works, including a framed, 15-segment oil painting entitled “Lent 1987” will also be sold.
Works by other prominent artists will also be available, including:
Christopher Huntington, known for his paintings of streams and Mount Katahdin;
Hunt Slonem, a Kittery native best known for his paintings of tropical birds, many of which appear in museum collections all over the world;
Brother Thomas, a close friend of Fr. Plante and an internationally-recognized ceramist.
