Our relationship with our sister parish began in 1992. We began by offering financial support for this desperately poor parish in a rural area of Haiti.
The terrible earthquake in 2010 destroyed the church. Our parish first helped arrange for the rubble to be cleared away, and then supported the effort to build a new and better church.
Our parish continues its contact with the church community in Meyer, Haiti, finding ways to support the pastor, Father Bertrand Dieuveille. Our financial support comes from your donations with the monthly door collection and other contributions to the fund for the Haitian people. Because of this support, we were able to arrange for a new LP gas stove to be transferred to the Meyer rectory through a sea container shipment used annually by many US churches. It was needed and appreciated at Meyer. Father Dieuveille recently reflected on issues and tragic events which challenge Americans at this time. He stated.... here at the Parish of the Sacre-Coeur de Meyer, the faithful and clergy pray for you...for the United States, for America and its people... so that the Queen of Peace, Understanding, and Mercy will watch over you.
