Fr. Daniel & parishioners will land in Port-au-Prince and spend the night.
January 15th: Fr. Daniel Greenleaf is accompanied by 3 other parishioners from Portland Maine to Port-au-Prince, Haiti via Atlanta. They will spend the night in Port-au-prince and drive to Jacmel where our sister parish in Meyer is located.
January 16th: 6:38am:The city is waking up, children walking to school, people walking to work, roosters crowing. Sitting on the patio drinking a cup of Haitian coffee. Warm, beautiful weather with a breeze. We are off this morning for a three hour drive through the mountains to the coastal town of Jacmel. God is with us.
9:00am: The first car we were to use for our trip today had no air conditioning because the compressor broke. The next one we chose not to use because the radiator was steaming and they were having to add water. Fr Daniel is now on his way to the airport with Domond to rent one from Avis. Danny and I are relaxing on the rooftop waiting, Trish is making lots of new friends. Hope to be on the road soon. All are in good spirits.
We are now on our way!
January 17th: Jacmel, Haiti: Saturday morning we woke up and Fr. Daniel said mass with the fellow priests in the church.
We had lunch at the beach! The weather was hot but beautiful. A lot different than chilly Maine!. We ate a lot of rice and chicken (and goat) on this trip!
The Cyvadier building we have helped finance is 80% completed. This building will house the sisters upstairs. Downstairs, the sisters will offer life skills classes like sewing and healthy cooking.
January 18th: Jacemel to Port-au-Prince: We attended mass Sunday morning then drove back to Port-au-Prince for the night. We spend the night at the Matthew-25 house.
January 19th: We awoke and went to visit at Mother Theresa House (A home for sick and malnourished children) We flew home in the afternoon and returned to Maine by 11:30pm Monday night.
We are thinking of planning another quick trip to Haiti to see the building completed. (March?)
