BAPTISM
- "Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spirtualis ianua), and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. - Process
  
  Step 1: Fill out the Baptism Inquiry Form
  Step 2: We will call you to schedule a meeting and confirm the date of the Baptism:
  
  Once we have the inquiry form, we will give you a call. The phone call is a chance for us to get to know you a little bit and touch base with you about the Baptism. (Are you in town or coming from out of town? What is your understanding of Baptism? Do you understand that you’re committing to raising your child Catholic? Etc.)
  
  We will also try to schedule the Baptism then. Baptisms typically take place during or after the 11 am Mass at Sacred Heart in Yarmouth.
  
  Step 3: Attend the Baptism prep meeting
  
  During the Baptism prep meeting, we will talk about what Baptism is and your commitments as parents. We will walk through how the rite of Baptism works.
  
  Step 4: Choose godparents
  
  Since infants cannot commit to the faith themselves, godparents commit to sharing responsibility with the parents in raising the child in the Catholic faith. To that end, the godparents should be practicing Catholics in good standing. The rite requires that there at least be a godfather, although it is customary to have both a godfather and a godmother. If you run into difficulties, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help.
  
  Step 5: Show up for the Baptism
  
  Your child may show up wearing their baptismal gown. Bring family and friends. The rite takes about 20 minutes total if outside of Mass. If rite is performed within Mass, plan on an hour to an hour and a half long Mass.

  Prior to the scheduled meeting, please view the following three classes on Baptism: Why Baptism, Baptism and Faith, and Beginning the Race. We will discuss these during the meeting. Each video is about ten minutes in length. Please come prepared to answer the questions:
  
  1) Why is Baptism necessary for salvation?
  2) What are my responsibilities as a parent or godparent of a baptized child?
