The Altar Server Corps is open to children who have received their First Communion. Please contact [email protected] to schedule a training.
As children serve more Masses and grow in their skills, they advance in level and responsibility. These levels are reflected in the color of the crucifixes that the servers wear. To pass from one level to the other, the servers must log a requisite number of Masses served and then pass the quiz found at the end of their manual. To attempt the quiz, they should contact Joe Moreshead (the director of faith formation) to set up a time. See below for pdfs of the server manuals.
Prior to the annual server banquet, the clergy of POTHE vote on candidates for the following awards:
St. Dominic Savio and St. Kateri Tekakwitha Awards for Novices
Given to a young man or lady (respectively) who has not yet completed his/her first year of serving. The recipient of this award should be distinguished by humility, docility (willingness to learn), and zeal (i.e. eagerness) in serving.
St. Aloysius Gonzaga and St. Therese of Lisieux Awards for Veteran Servers
These awards recognize a young man or woman (respectively) who has distinguished himself/herself by serving with marked attention, reverence and devotion at the altar. Additionally, the recipient of this award should be characterized by a spirit of generosity in serving Our Lord, the parish, and their fellow servers. This award is reserved for veteran servers having completed their first year of serving.
St. Benedict Award for Consistency
It is a great benefit to our parish to have servers we know we can rely on. This award goes to the server who has most faithfully and consistently served one Mass in the parish this year.
St. Francis of Assisi Award for Itinerancy
It is a great service to our parish to have servers willing to go wherever there is a need. This award goes to the server who frequently served at different churches and Masses throughout our parish.
Most Masses Served
This award goes to the server who has logged the most Masses served from May 1st of the prior year through April 30.
