"The WORD became flesh and made His dwelling among us….”
Our Catholic faith is not centered on rules and regulations, but on a man, JESUS CHRIST. He came to save us and to teach us with the sole purpose of showing us, His children, the way home to Heaven. We are all called to be Christ like; this is what the word Christian means. To be a Christian one must ENCOUNTER Christ, our Lord, Savior, and Friend. “I no longer call you servant,….., I have called you friend.”(John 15-15). It is the goal of the “ENCOUNTER” Youth Ministry to lead young persons closer to Christ so they can encounter Him more deeply. Our parish ministry will be using the Bible, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and other Catholic resources to guide our teens' faith formation experiences.
Our life is a journey with God which started at our baptism, when we became His disciples. Every moment we live is a time for true encounter with God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. In the Encounter Series the focus will be getting to know God in a more personal way. This series is divided into 2 tracks and each track covers 2 years.
Track 1: ENCOUNTER I (Grades 5 & 6)
"Encounter" is a Bible study designed specifically for kids ages 10-12...but it is more than that! It is a life-changing experience that speaks directly to their hearts and minds as it reveals the story of our faith and God’s plan for our lives. Our young participants will see God not as a distant doctrinal concept, but as a loving Father who desires a lasting encounter with them.
Year 1: The focus is on the Old Testament. The youth will explore the five covenants God made with man to prepare humanity for the coming of Jesus Christ, who is the sixth and final covenant with God. They will see God as a loving Father who desires a lasting friendship with them.
Year 2: The focus is on exploring the life of Jesus through the Gospel of Matthew. They will feel like they are walking along with the Apostles, as they learn about the beginning of the catholic Church, the Sacraments and why the Pope leads our earthly church. Our youth will encounter Jesus in everyday life helping them commit more and more to their discipleship to Jesus.
Track 2: ENCOUNTER II (Grades 7 & 8)
Like us, tweens need to encounter the person of Jesus and to learn how to be His disciples in ways that are relevant to them. Many resources will be available to us this year. Our goals:
Goal 1: To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today.
Goal 2: To draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community.
Goal 3: To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person. Let us walk with our teens as we help each other become holistic disciples through these eight ways:
|• Advocacy||• Worship and Prayer||• Community||• Leadership|
|• Catechesis||• Service||• Evangelization||• Pastoral Care|
Year 1: The focus is on exploring St. John Paul II writing of Theology of the Body. This study is intended to help our young teens to understand why God created them and to guide them through the tough questions of Faith that pop up in the junior high years about life and its purpose.
Year 2: The focus is on the mystery of the Mass. What was Jesus’ intent when He said “take and eat for this is my body …” After experiencing the “why” behind the “what” of the Mass, our youth will…
* Enter prepared,
* Participate with sincerity,
* Depart with purpose!
